An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Aesop's Fables ("Aesop's Film Fables"), the 1921 - 1933 Paul Terry silent family animation animated cartoon short series ("Aesop's Fables Modernized"; "The funniest animated cartoons by Paul Terry"; "'Sugar coated pill's of wisdom"; based on Aesop's Fables). Note that Paul Terry started this series in 1921, and it was very popular throughout the 1920s. In 1928, he made "Dinner Time", which was the very first sound cartoon! In 1929, Terry had a falling out with the producers, and he left the series, but they continued making it without him at Van Beuren Studios, where it continued (distributed by RKO/Pathe) until 1933. Note that in 1921, when this series started, Paul Terry made a stock poster for this film series that had a blank area at top below the "Aesop's Film Fables" title that could be overprinted with the names of specific cartoons. We have seen that poster both overprinted and with the top area blank. We know that starting in 1922, Terry also produced individual posters for each entry in the series (with cartoon art relating to each cartoon), but they continued to print stock posters (some overprinted), no doubt for frugal theater owners wanting to save money!
Artist: Paul Terry
Important Added Info: Note that until we were consigned this still, we thought that Paul Terry solely made one-sheets for his Aesop's Fables cartoons. But this wonderful still, with great artwork by Paul Terry himself, clearly shows that they also made at least a few stills (although this is the only one we have ever auctioned; we auctioned it once a few years ago, and that still has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only one).

Condition: very good to fine.
