Here is some background on Smokey the Bear: In 1944 the U.S. Forest Service issued a poster featuring "Smokey Bear", and he wore jeans and a campaign hat (what we now call a ranger hat). His slogan was "Smokey says - Care will prevent 9 out of 10 forest fires!". Over the next decade, Smokey would change in appearance as the artist who drew him changed, and he would get the slogan "Remember!
