Date Sold 5/29/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11 1/2" x 15 1/4" [29 x 39 cm]; 35 pages) (Learn More) Ship Ahoy, the 1942 Edward Buzzell World War II (WWII) Navy Naval sailor military spy espionage romantic musical mistaken identity screwball comedy ("MGM's Smash Musical Comedy Hit!"; about a novelist who takes a cruise to Puerto Rico to calm his nerves, and he gets involved with a singer who thinks she is smuggling for the U.S. government, but actually, she has been duped by spies, and then her bag gets mixed up with the novelist's!) starring Eleanor Powell, Red Skelton, Bert Lahr, Virginia O'Brien, Tommy Dorsey & His Orchestra, Nestor Paiva, and Frank Sinatra (unbilled, with Tommy Dorsey's band). Note that the plot sounds really zany, and it was really just a device to allow for Tommy Dorsey to perform a lot of songs and for Eleanor Powell to dance, and young unbilled Frank Sinatra, in his second movie, and his first for MGM, gets to sing a song! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this pressbook! Also note that this pressbook was created during the time when MGM (likely in a cost-cutting measure) stopped printing elaborate full-color covers for their pressbooks, and instead solely created several newsprint sections for each movie. It is difficult to know on such movies how many sections were originally created, but there were usually three of them, and if all three are present, then the pressbook is likely complete, and THIS pressbook does have all three sections and IS complete. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good, NO CUTS. All three sections of this pressbook are complete and uncut. However, they are printed on newsprint and have darkened, and are very fragile, and some pages have separated at the spine, and some have tiny tears around the edges (see our images).
