An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Swat the Spy, the 1918 Arvid E. Gillstrom silent World War I (WWI) Home Front family spy espionage slapstick comedy ("in which the two imps straf the Kaiser's crew"; a wacky story of an inventor who is making an explosive to help the U.S. win the war, but he doesn't realize all of his servants are German spies, but his two young daughters do, and they help stop the spies) starring Jane Lee, Katherine Lee (identical twins, billed as "Jane and Katherine Lee"), Charles Slattery, Pat Hartigan, and Florence Ashbrooke. Note that World War I began in 1914, but the U.S. did not enter the war until April 1917. There are many theories on why this was, some of them very cynical about the U.S. wanting to continue to supply both sides. President Wilson was able to "overlook" many incidents, including the sinking of the Lusitania by the Germans, during which many Americans lost their lives, but finally, the U.S. DID enter the war in April 1917, and immediately, Hollywood made a series of anti-German movies, specifically focused on Kaiser Wilhelm, portraying him as pure evil, and this is one of those movies!

Condition: very good to fine. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
