Date Sold 4/2/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) They Drive By Night (released in England as "The Road to Frisco"), the 1940 Raoul Walsh trucker romantic love triangle action melodrama ("No picture in 1940 will have bigger thrills!"; "From a Novel by A.I. Bezzerides"; about truckers and their love lives; it stole part of its plot from "Bordertown"!) starring George Raft, Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, Humphrey Bogart, Alan Hale Sr., Gale Page, Roscoe Karns, John Litel, Charles Halton, Charles C. Wilson, George Tobias, and Henry O'Neill. Note that movies rarely have top stars in all four lead roles (other than MGM movies of the 1930s and early 1940s, because they had so many such stars that they could afford to do this), but this movie is kind of a rare exception. We say "kind of" because Humphrey Bogart and Ida Lupino were not yet top stars when they made this movie, but the very next movie they made was "High Sierra", which did help elevate both of them to greater stardom! Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. We are doing something in this set of auctions we rarely do! A couple of years ago, we were approached by a very long time collector, and he asked us if he could give us an entire auction of single lobby cards by himself. We agreed, and held that auction in 2017, and later that same year, a different collector sent us a different group of 999 lobby cards and we repeated the process. Now we have a third such "single owner" collection. This one was originally assembled in Australia, which is why some of the cards have either Australian paper snipes attached or Australian ratings stamps (but many do not have them). This collection originally contained 1,100 cards, and we auctioned 100 of them in our March Major Auction, and now we are auctioning the remaining 999 in THIS set of auctions, and after this auction, there will be no more cards to be offered. As will immediately be evident when you look at the cards, many of them are from titles where you almost never see any lobby cards, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire many cards that almost never are offered for sale or at auction! Condition: fair. The card has darkened, typical of Warner Bros. linen lobby cards of this period. The card was used in Australia and there are two rating stamps in the lower right of the image. The title was also painted over with an alternate title, and then it was later changed back to the original title. The card was folded down the center. There are pinholes and light creases around the edges. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Please do not bid on this card unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
