Makes a mighty motion picture!"; "The Marines have landed... And the situation is well in hand!"; "The Marines' Greatest Hour!") starring John Wayne (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), John Agar, Adele Mara, Forrest Tucker, Wally Cassell, James Brown (NOT the famous singer!), Richard Webb, Arthur Franz, Julie Bishop, James Holden, Peter Coe, and Richard Jaeckel NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of a different style first release half-sheet, but we have never before auctioned this style of half-sheet! What is odd is that the two posters are very similar to each other, each with the image of John Wayne in full gear charging, and the flag raising image with the soldiers, but one has John Wayne hugging Adele Mara, and the other has him kissing Adele Mara! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had smudges, stains, creases, and tears around the edges. It had a long diagonal tear starting near the center of the bottom border and going through the top of the "W" of "WAYNE" and into the bottom of the "M" of "JIMA". It had some creases and scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
