Date Sold 3/7/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 24" x 29" [61 x 74 cm]) (Learn More) Der Tiger von Eschnapur (released in the U.S. as "The Tiger of Eschnapur"), the 1938 Richard Eichberg German India tiger animal jungle adventure thriller sequel (based on the novel by Thea von Harbou) starring Kitty Jantzen, La Jana, Philip Dorn (billed as "Frits van Dongen"), Alexander Golling, Gustav Diessel, Hans Stuwe, and Theo Lingen. Yes, that IS the same Philip Dorn who later starred in U.S. movies! He was born Hein van der Niet, and he acted in German movies under the name of Frits van Dongen, but he fled to America in the late 1930s, changed his name, and had success there (helped by the many U.S. stars who were away in the service). Also note that this movie was a prequel to the 1938 German movie "Das Indische Grabmal" (The Indian Tomb). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 24" x 29" [61 x 74 cm]. Also note that this is a rare "pre-War" Belgian poster. Prior to World War II, Belgian posters were much larger than the ones from after the war, and they are extremely rare (because during WWII, there was a massive paper shortage in Belgium, and they took virtually every poster and map, and printed new posters on the backs of them!). Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair to good. The poster originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). There is significant paper loss in the title area at left that has been repaired with pieces of other posters and glue from the back and some paint from the front (the repair was cleverly done but it is noticeable when viewed from a short distance). There are creases throughout the poster and there is some tattering around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
