Cregg), John Spencer (as Leo McGarry), Bradley Whitford (as Josh Lyman), Martin Sheen (as President Josiah 'Jed' Bartlet), Janel Moloney (as Donna Moss), Richard Schiff (as Toby Ziegler), Dule Hill (as Charlie Young), Rob Lowe (as Sam Seaborn), Joshua Malina (as Will Bailey), and Stockard Channing (as Abbey Bartlet). Note that the show was originally intended to focus solely on the president's staff, with the president himself making very rare appearances, and it would have focused on Rob Lowe's character. But Martin Sheen was so well received that his character quickly became full time and dominated the show, at which point Rob Lowe left the series!
