An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) The Great Gatsby, the 1949 Elliott Nugent romantic melodrama ("A Great Cast... A Great Novel... A Great Motion Picture"; "Ladd as man of violence and mystery vs. women of wealth and Beauty!"; "From the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the play by Owen Davis") starring Alan Ladd (in the title role as Jay Gatsby), Betty Field (as Daisy Buchanan), Macdonald Carey (as Nick Carraway), Ruth Hussey (as Jordan Baker), Barry Sullivan (as Tom Buchanan), Howard Da Silva, Shelley Winters, and Ed Begley. Note that F. Scott Fitzgerald's legendary novel was first adapted as a movie in 1926 (the novel was published in 1925). This 1949 remake was not very faithful to the novel, and was not very successful at the box office, and neither was the 1974 remake starring Robert Redford (to be fair, it would be very difficult for a movie to be faithful to the book and succeed at the box office). This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Condition: good to very good. The poster had tiny creases and tiny areas of surface paper loss in the bottom 3/4 of the vertical foldline. There were rough creases in the left half of the middle foldline. There was minor wear on the other folds and in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking.
