Date Sold 12/11/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1947 (from the first 16mm release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Large Movie Poster (31x47; measures 30 3/4" x 46" [78 x 117 cm]) (Learn More) John Ford's My Darling Clementine, the classic 1946 John Ford Tombstone Arizona romantic cowboy western (based on a story by Sam Hellman from the book 'Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal' by Stuart N. Lake; about the legendary showdown between the Earp Brothers and the Clantons in Tombstone, including the gunfight at the OK Corral) starring Henry Fonda (as Wyatt Earp), Linda Darnell (as Chihuahua), Victor Mature (as Doc Holliday), Walter Brennan (as "Old Man Clanton"), Tim Holt (as Virgil Earp), Cathy Downs (in the title role, as Clementine Carter), John Ireland (as Billy Clanton), Ward Bond (as Morgan Earp), Alan Mowbray, Roy Roberts, Jane Darwell, Grant Withers, J. Farrell MacDonald, and Russell Simpson. Note that 20th Century-Fox was apparently uneasy about spending so much money on a western, and to hedge their bets, they strongly pushed sexy Linda Darnell in the title role, and they even made a teaser 24-sheet, which solely showed sexy Linda Darnell, and which had the tagline "Men are lost and gone forever when they go for Clementine!". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Constantin Belinsky Important Added Info: Note that a leading French expert tells us that this poster IS from the first release of this movie in France, which occurred in 1947, but that it was used when the film played in small theaters in 16mm, and it is NOT from when the film played in major theaters in 35mm. France was recovering after World War II, and this was done with several movies at this time (there was a 47x63 poster for the 35mm release, and a 31x46 poster for the 16mm release). Of course, all French posters from the first release are extremely scarce (we have never before auctioned this French poster). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, with some tiny bits of paper loss on small parts of some folds, and some pinholes around the edges, with a 2 1/2" tear in the top border extending into the very top of Darnell's hair. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
