(Learn More) Stella Dallas, the classic 1937 King Vidor rich-man-marries-low-class-woman romantic family relationship melodrama ("Who says I'm not fit to be a mother?"; "They called her vulgar... cheap... You'll call her Magnificent!"; "From the novel by Olive Higgins Prouty"; about a trampy woman who gives up her child so she will have a better life with her rich father) starring Barbara Stanwyck (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Stella Dallas), John Boles, Anne Shirley (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Alan Hale Sr., Barbara O'Neil, Marjorie Main, and Edmund Elton NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that there is a "tipped in" herald (we have pictured the part that shows on the inside front cover, but we did not open it up). Note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook along with an interior 2-page spread, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Note that this item (and others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from the estate of Lee Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a nationally recognized projectionist, film poster collector, and union activist who passed away earlier this year, and the net proceeds from the sale of his varied and eclectic collection will be donated to promote film studies at the Besant School of Happy Valley in Ojai, Ca. Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. There is some staining and tiny paper loss at the bottom of the cover and at the bottom of the pages of the supplement. There are some smudges and stains on the cover. Of course, one would wish for a better condition example of this pressbook, but it might be a decade or more before another one is offered in ANY condition! Learn More about condition grades
