An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Argentinean Movie Poster (measures 14 1/2" x 29" [37 x 74 cm]) (Learn More)

Gateway of the Moon, the 1928 John Griffith Wray silent South America romantic melodrama ("A Tropical Tempest of Emotion on the Amazon"; "Story by Clifford Bax") starring Dolores Del Rio, Walter Pidgeon, Ted McNamara, Leslie Fenton, Anders Randolf, and Noble Johnson. Note that Walter Pidgeon was born in 1897, and started making silent movies in the mid 1920s, but he had limited success. He had a wonderful speaking voice, but that did not lead to stardom in early sound movies. Finally, in 1937, at the age of 40, MGM put him under contract, but still limited him to supporting roles. His "big break" finally came in 1941 with "How Green Was My Valley", and he became one of MGM's top stars of the early 1940s (no doubt helped by so many other male stars being away at war). He stayed with MGM for the remainder of his career. Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable find of 143 Argentinean posters from 1926 to 1929 that were recently discovered! They all measure approximately 14 1/4" x 28 1/4", which was one of the two main sizes created for Argentinean movie posters at that time (the other was a poster that measured 29" x 43"). It is likely that prior to this amazing find, there were only a small number of these posters known to exist in the entire world, and after these 143 are auctioned, it is unlikely that there will be many more discovered, even over the coming decades! This is a rare opportunity to purchase an Argentinean poster from the late 1920s, a time when virtually no movie posters from any country are known to exist! Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: very good. There are a few minor patches of slight discoloration scattered in various areas (more so along the foldlines), typical of Argentinean posters of this time period. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition and it displays well.
