An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Charlie Chan at the Olympics, the 1937 H. Bruce Humberstone Asian detective Berlin Germany sports crime mystery thriller ("Murderous spies invade Olympic games!"; "A new world's record for thrills ....even for Chan!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Katherine DeMille, Pauline Moore, Allan 'Rocky' Lane, Keye Luke (as Lee Chan), C. Henry Gordon, Jonathan Hale, and Morgan Wallace. Note that the events in this movie take place at the infamous 1936 Berlin Olympics, where Adolf Hitler presided over the games, hoping they would prove Germany's Aryan superiority, but of course, exactly the reverse occurred! Also note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: NOTE: Most lobby cards from before 1940 (and some from after that date) did not have individual lobby card numbers like later lobby cards (those printed after the advent of NSS in 1940) did. So we have arbitrarily assigned numbers to unnumbered lobby cards, only when we sell more than one from a set, so that there is a convenient way to tell different scenes apart. (Note that we do not use #1, because this is commonly used to signify the title card). The exception to this is sets of cards that did not have title cards. Condition: very good to fine. The card is lightly rippled in the bottom right of the image (this is much more "felt" than seen). There are a few very faint water stains in that area which you really only see when the card is tilted to the light. There is a faint 2" diagonal crease in the background area between the two men's heads at top center. Other than the above (which is truly not very noticeable in the slightest), the card is in really nice condition! Note that this card is completely unrestored and has never had any restoration of any kind, nor has there been any tape on the front or back of the card. The back of the card is completely blank, with no writing or stamps. Learn More about condition grades
