An Original Vintage Folded World War II Poster (measures 40" x 60" [102 x 152 cm]) (Learn More)

Moviegoers! Join the Fighting Fifth, the 1944 U.S. World War II (WWII) War Bonds poster ("Invest in Invasion"; "Fight by his side!"; "Buy more bonds than before"; "5th war loan") encouraging people to purchase war bonds, and featuring Gustavson art of citizens marching with a soldier. Note that this is not a "regular" World War II poster! Those were sent to Army bases to be displayed, and also areas where the public would see them, but this is one of a few special one-sheets that were made during World War II specifically to be sent to movie theaters to display in their lobbies. It was something that theaters did to "do their part" in the war effort, helping to create sales of war bonds. Movie theaters also would display special one-sheets for charities, both before World War II, during it, and after. Often, when such one-sheets (both bond and charity ones) were displayed, the theater would have an intermission where people would appear on stage between movies and other people would pass among the audience collecting money! One-sheets like these are extremely rare.
Artist: Gustavson
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster!

Condition: poor to fair. Unfortunately, someone needed some paper and cut out a portion of the top left of the poster. However, it is clear that this area read the title we give above, so any restorer could pretty easily recreate it, and an image of the complete poster can be found on the Internet, which would greatly aid in restoration. However, do not bid on this unless you can accept this significant defect.
