An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Moon Over Miami, the 1941 Walter Lang Florida Everglades romantic musical ("Adaptation by George Seaton and Lynn Starling from a play by Stephen Powys"; "Lyrics and Music by Leo Robin & Ralph Rainger"; about two Texas girls losing an inheritance because of taxes and they travel to Miami to find rich husbands) starring Don Ameche, Betty Grable, Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings), Charlotte Greenwood, Jack Haley, Carole Landis, Cobina Wright Jr., Fortunio Bonanova, and Jack Cole. Note that Alberto Vargas did the artwork for the cover of the pressbook and the 24-sheet only on this movie, and both bear his signature. The pressbook explains that Vargas was commissioned to paint this image. Nowhere does it state that he did any of the other art for the movie, even though one of the one-sheets and the insert are often described as being Vargas art. It is my opinion that they are NOT drawn by Vargas, and certainly the pressbook backs that up.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that the insert and also the style A one-sheet (both of which has a "pinup" image of a sexy Betty Grable-like blonde, standing full-length in a skin-tight outfit!) have often been incorrectly attributed to Alberto Vargas. Actually, he solely did the 24-sheet for this movie, and the artist for the style A one-sheet and the look-alike insert did the art "in the Vargas style", which has caused this incorrect attribution. This half-sheet, which we have never seen or heard of before, has wonderful "Vargas-like" art, and it was also used in the six-sheet and jumbo window card, but on this poster, it also has a film strip showing scenes from the movie, with musical notes where the sprocket holes should be! This poster certainly has wonderful art, and we wish we knew whose art it is, so that we could credit that person! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and we would prefer to send it in a large flat package, because rolling it in a tube would potentially cause it to separate more on the folds (it could be re-folded, because doing so would likely not harm the poster, but the new owner will decide that).

Condition: very good. The poster has tiny paper loss at the crossfold and creases across the horizontal fold, with a lesser amount of wear on the vertical fold. It has a tiny circular hole in the lower part of the vertical fold, in the bottom of Ameche's jacket. It has a few pinholes around the edges and a few dot stains. It has a small stain in the white background area, just to the let of the tiny red credits, and two tiny faint water stains to the left of that in the edge of the blue. There is 2" of separation at the left end of the horizontal fold and tiny paper loss in the right end of the horizontal fold, with minor wear in the top half of the right blank border. I would think many collectors would be happy to display this wonderful poster just as it is, but certainly, it would be very easy for any restorer to perform slight restoration to the above defects.
