A Linenbacked French Special Poster (measures 44 3/4" x 62 1/2" [114 x 159 cm]) (Learn More)

Fete De Neuilly, the 1903 French poster promoting an annual festival which was held in Neuilly, a suburb of Paris, from June 14th to July 6th. The festival began in 1815 and was created by the imperial decree of Napoleon Bonaparte. Note that this poster lists the various activities that were to take place, and features Ferdinand Misti-Mifliez art of revelers bathed in the glow of orange and green lanterns. A poster was created each year that this festival was held, and Misti-Mifliez created many of them around this time. The man is holding an orange lantern and at the bottom of the poster it says (in French) that the activities will be illuminated by electric lights at night, which was surely a very recent addition to the festival (if not the first year that they have electricity there)!
Artist: Ferdinand Misti-Mifliez
