An Original Vintage English Magazine Supplement (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) the 1929 2-page spread from the art supplement contained in the August 17, 1929 issue of Picture Show magazine with articles about Blackmail (on one of the four pages), the 1929 Alfred Hitchcock murder thriller starring Anny Ondra (she was married to director Carl Lamac, and was a major star in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s; she continued working with her husband after they were divorced, and in 1933, she married boxer Max Schmeling, and they appeared in "Knockout" together, and remained married for over 50 years, until her passing in 1987), John Longden, Cyril Ritchard, Sara Allgood, and Charles Paton. Note that this was originally intended to be a silent movie, but after the massive success of The Jazz Singer, it was decided that parts of this would be given sound. Apparently, Hitchcock thought this ridiculous and had the entire movie filmed in sound, making it England's first all-talking movie. Also, star Anny Ondra had a very thick accent, so Hitchcock hired another actress to speak her lines as Ondra mouthed the words, so her part was in effect "dubbed", even though it was not in the modern sense, where a different voice is added post production (that technology did not exist in 1929). AND A Certain Young Man (on two of the four pages), the 1928 Hobart Henley silent romantic comedy starring Ramon Novarro, Marceline Day, Renee Adoree, Carmel Meyers, Bert Roach, and Patricia Avery. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that these are four of the pages that were in this art supplement (see above). One of the four pages has a great illustrated story about the Alfred Hitchcock movie, Blackmail, two of the pages have a story about A Certain Young Man, and the last page has a biography of Karl Dane. Condition: good to very good. The pages are in pretty good condition, with some wear around the edges, but they were removed from this magazine. Learn More about condition grades
