An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 39 3/4" x 59 3/4" [101 x 152 cm]) (Learn More)

So Red The Rose, the 1935 King Vidor historical Civil War romantic melodrama ("The flower of Southern chivalry... dewed with the shining glory of a woman's tears"; "From Stark Young's novel") starring Margaret Sullavan, Walter Connolly, Randolph Scott, Elizabeth Patterson, Janet Beecher, Robert Cummings (in his first real movie after a single uncredited role two years earlier!), Dickie Moore, Clarence Muse, and Charles Starrett. Note that this film performed poorly at the box office, which perpetuated the myth that Civil War films were box office poison (a myth shattered by Gone With The Wind).
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that in the very early days of 30x40s and 40x60s, they were made differently than they were in later years. Some were printed with silkscreen images on very thin paper, and others were printed on a heavy cardboard-like stock. This poster combines both (it is silkscreen, but it is on a heavy cardboard-like stock), and it is incredibly rare! Also note that this only the second time we have ever auctioned a poster from this movie (we previously auctioned a half-sheet, and that was 11 years ago, but otherwise, we have only auctioned heralds, lobby cards, and stills). Note that this poster measures 39 3/4" x 59 3/4" [101 x 152 cm], but it has not been trimmed.

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. There are some tiny creases and stains around the edges of the poster, with a few smudges and scuffs scattered throughout the poster, and water staining scattered in the left and bottom borders, and a lesser amount in the right border. The poster will display quite well exactly as it is, or certainly, it could have slight restoration performed to the above defects, which are mostly in the blank borders.
