An Original Vintage Linenbacked World's Fair Poster (measures 35 1/4" x 44 3/4") (Learn More)

A Food Map of the United States, the 1932 special poster ("showing the part played by each of our States in supplying the Nation's larder") printed for the 1933 World's Fair (by A & P, which used to be the foremost grocery store chain in the U.S.) and depicting the agricultural production of each state. This poster features colorful art of the U.S. by Louis Fancher. Note that at the time this poster was created, A & P had around 16,000 stores in the U.S. (making it like the Wal-Mart of today), and that's probably why they had money to splurge on things like this food map! The company went bankrupt in 2010, but reorganized and is still hanging on with 338 stores! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Louis Fancher

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had darkened unevenly, and had areas of paper loss at crossfolds and tears and tiny areas of paper loss on parts of some foldlines, and some tears and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
