An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm]) (Learn More) Le Educande di Saint-Cyr (literally translates to "Educators of Saint-Cyr"), the 1939 Gennaro Righelli Italian France Napoleonic era military school romantic melodrama (based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas; about two male students at a French military academy, and there is a girls school next door, and the two students literally jump the wall and court two young ladies; they are caught and the two young couples are sent to separate faraway places, but they end up reunited, thanks in large part to the help of Napoleon and the Empress!) starring Luigi Carini (as Napoleon Bonaparte), Maria Jacobini, Carlo Tamberlani, Vanna Vanni, Silvana Jachino, and Elio Steiner. The movie was completed in 1939, but it was first shown in Italian theaters in January 1940. The IMDb says that the movie was released in Spain in 1942, and we don't know what other countries it played in, or when. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Biazzi Important Added Info: Note that this poster is dated 1939 in the left border, and it has the correct distributor in the lower right corner. So we think it is very likely the first Italian poster from 1939, but there is a slight change it could be from after World War II (but if so, there is nothing to indicate it). If it is from 1939, then this is an extremely rare pre-World War II Italian poster! Virtually no Italian posters survive from before World War II (mostly only pre-war heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in Italy during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie! Also note that this Italian two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: good to very good.
