Date Sold 9/7/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 Original Vintage Color Canadian 8" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm] Stills (Learn More) John Lennon was an English musician, singer and songwriter from the 1950s to 1980. He rose to worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. He also had a few screen roles (mostly with The Beatles) in films such as A Hard Day's Night, Let It Be, Yellow Submarine, and Help! Lennon was assassinated in 1980 at the age of 40 AND Yoko Ono is a Japanese artist, musician, and peace activist from the 1960s to the present. She is probably best known for her marriage to John Lennon, but has also appeared in a few movies which include: Satan's Bed, Apotheosis, and Two Virgins. As of 2021, she is still alive at the age of 88! Important Added Info: Note that these two photos were taken at the Montreal "Bed-In" in Canada. It was originally intended to take place in New York, but John could not enter the U.S. at that time because of his 1968 pot conviction. They had planned to hold it in the Bahamas, but after spending a night there, the heat caused them to move it to Montreal! They arrived in Montreal on May 26, 1969, and stayed there seven days, during which time Timothy Leary, Tommy Smothers, Dick Gregory, Murray the K., Al Capp, Allen Ginsberg, and others visited, and most of them sang on the "Give Peace a Chance" recording in the hotel room on June 1. The Canadian Broadcasting System conducted interviews from the hotel room. ARE THESE TWO PHOTOS FROM MAY 1969? We can't say for certain. They are printed on Kodak paper (which is not unusual for color photos from this period), but they both have a stamp from "Sparrow Photos LTD." on the back, with a Canadian address, with a second Sparrow Photos stamp as well. Please read below for what we know about this photo BEFORE you place a bid on it. Note that these photos and 8 others (which we are auctioning in a total of 4 lots) were consigned to us by a man who obtained them from a close friend's wife. That woman's first husband had been a roadie for The Beatles and other bands in the 1960s and 1970s. She had these photos in frames, and she told our consignor that her husband obtained them in the 1960s or 1970s. He has no certificate of authenticity, and we have no way of verifying what he says, although the photos are clearly vintage, although three of them are on Kodak paper (but those two are clearly vintage). PLEASE DO NOT BID ON ANY OF THESE FOUR LOTS UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THE UNCERTAINTY AS TO WHEN THEY ARE FROM AND BY WHOM THEY WERE CREATED. We will give the buyers of any of these four lots 30 days in which to do any research, but 30 days after the auction has ended, they will not be returnable for any reason, so bear this in mind before bidding on any of these photos. Note that these stills measure 8" x 9 3/4" [20 x 25 cm], but they have not been trimmed. Condition: very good. Both photos have tape residue on the back of two borders, where they were in frames, but that does not affect the front, and they display well (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
