An Autographed 3 1/2" x 4 1/4" [9 x 11 cm] Cut Album Page (Learn More) Lon Chaney Jr. (son of the legendary Lon Chaney Sr.) was an actor from the 1930s to the 1970s. He was named "Creighton" when he was born in 1906, and throughout the 1920s, he worked at many menial jobs. But after his father died in 1930, he entered the movies, and was billed as "Creighton Chaney" until 1935, when a producer insisted he be billed as "Lon Chaney Jr.", and he reluctantly agreed. He did not have much success in the 1930s until 1939, when he magnificently played Lennie in "Of Mice and Men", and in 1941, he was cast in the lead role of The Wolf Man, and he repeated that role in several other Universal horror movies, and he regularly appeared in many horror and western movies in the 1950s in supporting roles, including a notable one in High Noon. He passed away in 1973 at the age of 67. Important Added Info: This cut album page has been personally autographed (signed) by Lon Chaney Jr. Someone glued this cut album page to a different album page, and surely put a small image of Mr. Chaney in the album corners above it. That small image is no longer there. They also wrote Mr. Chaney's date of death in the upper left of that page. The autograph is undated, but given the age of the paper, we would say it is almost surely from the 1940s. Our consignor purchased it from a memorabilia dealer many years ago, and he has no certificate of authenticity, so bidders should compare this signature to known examples of Mr. Chaney's autograph before placing a bid on it. It could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed together to make a cool display! Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who (together with his wife) has been a collector and dealer in autographs for decades! Over those years they obtained a huge number of autographed items through the mail, and they also attended many events where they could obtain autographs in person, and they also set up as dealers at collectible shows, where they would buy autographs and sell and trade some of their own. Over the years, they developed friendships with some of the celebrities they obtained autographs from, sometimes acquiring memorabilia of a particular celebrity that they would send to them as a gift, as a thank you for you the many autographs they obtained (in many cases, the items are personalized to either our consignor, or to his wife, or to both of them). If we know any information about how this specific item was obtained, it is written above. But in general, we feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic, but our consignor does not have a certificate of authenticity. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. Condition: good to very good. Someone had a cut album page signature of Mr. Chaney and they glued it to a different album page (see above). That small image is no longer there. There is also a vertical tear in the far right of the signature portion that separates the signature into two (running down the middle of the "e" of "Chaney"). Obviously, this could be removed from the cut album page and properly mounted onto a backing, and then displayed with an image with Mr. Chaney. Learn More about condition grades
