An Original Vintage 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Still (Learn More)

Al "Jazzbo" Collins was a disc jockey and musician from the 1940s to the 1990s. Collins began his professional career as a disc jockey at a bluegrass music station in West Virginia, and in 1950 he moved to New York City, where he was hired by WNEW. He made several appearances on The Tonight Show with Steve Allen in the early 50s, and in 1957, NBC hired him for five weeks as the host of the Tonight show (when it was known as Tonight! America After Dark) in the period between hosts Steve Allen and Jack Paar. Late in life, Collins also narrated "Jazzbo's Swingin' Soundies", a series of short 'filler' features for the American Movie Classics cable network, in which he introduced some of the Soundies jukebox musical film shorts from the 1940's. He passed away in 1997 at the age of 78. AND Barbara Nichols was a sexy blonde actress (in the Marilyn Monroe style) from the 1950s to the 1970s. Some of her movies include: Sweet Smell of Success, The Loved One, and The Pajama Game. She passed away in 1976 at the age of 47 of liver failure.
Important Added Info: Note that this still shows disc jockey Al "Jazzbo" Collins being handed a record by Barbara Nichols in a very skimpy outfit with a Santa hat, and he is sitting in front of a WNEW radio microphone. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Note that this is one of seven great stills we were consigned that all show black African American musical performers. Such stills are extremely rare. All are clearly originals and have information on the back indicating that they were publicity stills. In several cases, we have never had any other stills showing these performers, so this is a very rare chance to purchase one or more of these!

Condition: very good.
