He was a boxing and wrestling champ in the Coast Guard, which initially gave him leading man roles, but he soon shifted over to playing villains. He appeared in many movies and on many radio shows, thanks to his distinctive voice. Some of his movies include: Gone With the Wind (as Jonas), The Three Loves of Carmen, Cheyenne Autumn, The Miracle Worker, and Papillon. He passed away in 1982 at the age of 79. Important Added Info: Note that these stills all feature a specific actor or actress (sometimes portraits, but often in a scene from a movie that they were in). They come from the collection of Ken Jones, who was an author of many books about old-time actors, including many character actors.
