An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Bringing Up Baby, the 1938 Howard Hawks romantic raising-a-leopard screwball comedy (about a paleontologist trying to get a million dollars for his museum, and he is joined in his quest by a flighty heiress who has a pet leopard named Baby!) starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Charlie Ruggles, Barry Fitzgerald, May Robson, Walter Catlett, Fritz Feld, Asta the Dog (the same dog as in the Thin Man movies!), Nissa the Leopard (in the title role as Baby), and Leona Roberts

Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredible item! The movie features a trained leopard (the "Baby" of the title), and that leopard was played by Nissa, and was trained and owned by Olga Celeste. At some point during the filming of the movie, someone took a picture of the leopard lying on the set, next to a gag poster that read "GREATEST SHOW ON THE LOT See NISSA THE LEOPARD - ADMISSION 25 cents, also HEPBURN & GRANT Admission 10 cents Including tax, and autographs"! Olga Celeste wanted a great memento of the movie, and she had the director Howard Hawks, plus most of the cast and crew sign this photo (naturally, the top people signed in large bold letters in the top left, and everyone else wrote their name where they could in the bottom half of the photo). Miss Celeste herself wrote "Greetings, Olga" in the lower right of the photo. The photo was nicely matted and framed (likely in 1938), and it was found in Miss Celeste's estate, and it was auctioned at Christie's in 1989 in their "Collectibles Auction Sale #6841", and it was lot #349. At some point either just prior to the Christie's sale, or some years prior, someone had the photo removed from the original frame and had new non-glare glass placed inside and then the frame was reassembled. A new backing paper was put on the back of the frame, and a handwritten card was taped to the back of the backing paper, giving information about the picture, and the original Christie's East sale sticker was placed on that card (see our image). Whether you are a fan of this wonderful movie, or an autograph collector, or just love really cool movie memorabilia, this is an incredible piece that can be displayed on anyone's wall and admired by everyone!

Condition: very good. The still is in the frame, and we don't want to disturb it, so we can't say exactly what condition it is in. It has some light rippling and might wear around the edges, but otherwise appears to be in really nice condition. The autographs are mostly quite vivid, especially the top stars and Howard Hawks, but some of the signatures in the bottom half of the photo may have faded somewhat (or perhaps they were written that way). As stated above, the framed picture had new non-glare glass put in place of the old glass, but otherwise, it is the original frame and mat. There is wear in the top left corner of the frame, and slight wear around the edges. Please look closely at our image to get a good sense of the condition of the frame and the photo itself.
