A Group of 18 Photographic Negatives (measure 4" x 5" [10 x 13 cm]) (Learn More) Peyton Place, the 1964 - 1969 television (TV) soap opera melodrama series (based on the novel by Grace Metalious) starring Dorothy Malone (as Constance Mackenzie), Mia Farrow (as Allison Mackenzie), Ed Nelson (as Michael Rossi), Ryan O'Neal (as Rodney Harrington), Christopher Connelly (as Norman Harrington), Barbara Parkins (as Betty Anderson Cord), Ruby Dee, Percy Rodriguez, and James Douglas (as Steven Cord). The book Peyton Place was published in 1956 and was a massive success, and was followed by a hugely successful 1958 movie. But it took six years for someone to realize that it could be equally as successful on TV, and because so much time had passed, none of the actors from the movie were available to recreate their roles. But with an all new cast, it was instantly successful! It was the first prime time soap opera, and it launched the careers of many young actors and actresses. It became so popular, that it soon was broadcast on two different nights each week, and even went to three nights a week (the only other well remembered TV show that had a second night a week was TV's "Batman" and on the much later prime time reality shows). Important Added Info: Note that these negatives are in glassine envelopes, but they are also in a paper sleeve that identifies them and also says "Shot 4/17/64 by Sheedy & Long", so we know the photographer for sure, and we imagine this was some sort of promotional tie-in that Barbara Parkins did to help promote the show. Also note that this (or these, in the case of multiple negatives) was created by and sent by the studio that produced this (in the year noted on this auction) to newspapers, magazines, TV stations, or reviewers, so that they could use them to create the highest quality ads. They can be used to make very high quality reproductions, but bear in mind that we are solely auctioning the physical negatives and NOT the right to reproduce them, so unless they are public domain, the new owner must acquire the rights elsewhere before reproducing them. NOTE THAT THE ITEM YOU ARE PURCHASING IS A "NEGATIVE" THAT HAS A REVERSE IMAGE, AS SEEN IN OUR PHOTO (on most of these auctions of negatives, we scanned the negatives as well as photographing them, using a special "negative setting", which reverses the image, but in the case of this auction (and a few others), the person who owned the negatives also had a positive print of one of them (because they are all identical), so we simply photographed the negatives with the one positive print, so that you see how the negative appears by looking at the positive print).
