An Original Vintage Stage Play Souvenir Program Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/2" [24 x 32 cm]; 22 pages) (Learn More)

Ruth St. Denis with Ted Shawn and The Denishawn Dancers, the 1923 souvenir program book that was sold at performances by this then famous dance team. In their day, Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn were very famous dancers who toured the United States, but today their fame is likely because they hired beautiful unknown young Louise Brooks in 1922 (after they had been performing for years), and in the 1923 souvenir program, Louise Brooks is prominently billed as one of the "Denishawn Artists", and she is given a picture along with the others, and her brief biography reads "LOUISE BROOKS who plays the little Hopi bride in the 'Feather of the Dawn' has made swift advancement thru her natural talent and beauty and hard work." She is also pictured and billed on one of the interior pages, the one for "The Feather of the Dawn", and she is also one of the dancers in the "Cuadro Flamenco" number, which was a Spanish gypsy dance. Of course, the following year, Denis and Shawn fired Louise Brooks and she would then go to Hollywood and swiftly become a major movie star, but she hated the Hollywood system and quit during the filming of the sound version of "The Canary Murder Case", which got her blackballed in Hollywood, and she went to Germany and France, where she appeared in "Pandora's Box" and "Diary of a Lost Girl", and you should click on her name to read much more about her!
