An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese Movie Poster (measures 21 1/2" x 42" [55 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) The Love Parade, the 1929 Ernst Lubitsch (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) mythical country royalty romantic musical comedy ("Paramount's greatest talking-singing picture"; "From the play 'The Prince Consort' by Leon Xanrof and Jules Chancel"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a queen of a mythical country who marries a diplomat, who is expected to act as a royal consort, but he is unhappy with that role) starring Maurice Chevalier (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Jeanette MacDonald, Lupino Lane, Lillian Roth, and Eugene Pallette. Note that this was director Ernst Lubitsch's first talking movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that virtually NO posters survive from Japan before World War II! Likely this is because of paper shortages during the war, similar to what existed in several European countries. Finding ANY pre-World War II Japanese posters is extremely rare; to find one from a major movie like this one is even more rare! Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: poor to fair. The poster has smudges, stains, separation, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss and surface paper loss scattered throughout. Someone put white paper tape on the back of the original foldlines and in a few other areas on the back of the poster, but made no other attempt at fixing it. There is a tear in the right of the top border that extends down 3". It then runs 4" to the left (along the top of the image) and then 7" down, running through the center of Chevalier's hair. Obviously, this rare and historic poster has a great number of defects, but certainly, a talented restorer can repair all of them and make the poster look great. But please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored! Learn More about condition grades
