An Original Vintage Theatrical English Movie Pressbook (English pb; measures 10" x 12 1/2" [25 x 32 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More) Cecil B. DeMille's The King of Kings, the 1927 Cecil B. DeMille silent historical life-of-Christ religious Biblical epic melodrama ("Cecil B. DeMille's supreme dramatic spectacle King of Kings"; "The simple Christian story... portrayed with reverence, power and great beauty!"; "Story by Jeanie Macpherson") starring H.B. Warner (as Jesus Christ), Dorothy Cumming (as Mother Mary), Ernest Torrence (as Peter), Joseph Schildkraut (as Judas), Jim Mason (not to be confused with the English actor James Mason!; as Gestas the Unrepenting Thief), Victor Varconi (as Pontius Pilate), Majel Coleman (as Proculla, Pilate's wife), Jacqueline Logan (as Mary Magdalene), William Boyd, Lionel Belmore, May Robson, Rex Ingram, Noble Johnson, Jack Padjan, and Ayn Rand (the author of "The Fountainhead", in a bit part as an extra!). Note that there was a later version of this movie in 1961, but that was directed by Nicholas Ray and it starred Jeffrey Hunter as Jesus. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that when this epic movie was released in England, all of the posters solely had text, and they are reproduced in color on one of the interior pages. Theaters could also purchase a set of 5 "oil paintings in handsome oak frames" in either a 40x60 size or a 30x40 size, and all of those are pictured in full color as well. There are two great interior images in black & white that show where dozens of men were hired to hold identical posters for the movie standing all over the street! Stapled in the back of the pressbook is a section of "newspaper paragraphs" about the movie. We have never auctioned this English pressbook before! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this English pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this English pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. The covers are mostly separated at the spine. The center 4 pages are loose from the rest of the pages, and there are rust stains at the staple area on those pages, and some creases and tiny stains around the edges of the covers.
