An Undated (probably 1962 or 1963) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese Two-Panel "STB" or "Tatekan" Movie Poster (2p; measures 20" x 57" [51 x 145 cm]) (Learn More) Bakushu (released in English-speaking countries as "Early Summer"), the 1951 Yasujiro Ozu Japanese post-World War II (WWII) romantic family melodrama sequel starring Setsuko Hara, Chishu Ryu, Chikage Awashima, Kuniko Miyake, and Ichiro Sugai. Note that this was the middle movie of a trilogy of great movies by legendary Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu. The first movie was "Banshun" in 1949, which deals with a 27 year old single woman who lives with her widowed father, and everyone wants her to get married, but she wants to take care of him. In this second movie, Bakushu, she is now 28, and still unmarried, and her family sets her up with a 40 year old man, but she has other plans. In the third movie, Tokyo monogatari (released as "Tokyo Story" in English-speaking countries), made in 1953, an old couple visits their children and grandchildren, but they have no time for them! Note that Yasujiro Ozu was a legendary Japanese writer and director from 1920s to the 1960s. He is likely the second best regarded Japanese director after Akira Kurosawa, and many of his films are considered classics, and his masterpiece is "Tokyo Story" from 1953, although he made movies from 1927 to 1962. First release Japanese posters of any kind from any of his movies are beyond rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this 1960s (probably 1962 or 1963) Japanese two-panel, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Japanese movie! Also note that this Japanese two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The upper section of the poster has pinholes around the edges, with tape stains at the bottom of that section. The lower section has tape stains at the top and a tape stain in the upper left border. It has tears and small paper loss scattered down the right border and some in the bottom border. There are some creases and smudges scattered along the folds. Obviously, this incredibly rare poster can be linenbacked and restored, and it will not require a lot of paint restoration, but bear in mind its condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
