An Unfolded Greek Special Poster (measures 19 3/4" x 27 1/2" [50 x 70 cm]) (Learn More) The Coalition of the Radical Left (best known as Syriza, a pun on the Greek adverb meaning "from the roots" or "radically") is a Greek political party, founded initially as an alliance in 2004. It is the largest party in the Hellenic Parliament, with party chairman Alexis Tsipras serving as Prime Minister of Greece from January 2015 to August 2015 and from September 2015 to the present. The party colors are red (left-wing politics), green (green politics) and purple (feminism and other social movements). If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Oxi is Greek for "No". There is a long history of Greek Nos and there are hundreds of political posters that defy this or that. It goes back to 1940 when Mussolini issued an ultimatum to Greece demanding the cession of Greek territory, which the Prime Minister of Greece, Ioannis Metaxas, rejected. The Italian army invaded Greece in October, before the Italian ultimatum had expired. This poster refers to the 2015 referendum to decide whether Greece was to accept the bailout conditions in the country's government-debt crisis proposed jointly by the European Commission (EC), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Central Bank (ECB). The referendum was announced by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in the early morning of June 27th and ratified the following day by the Parliament and the President. It was the first referendum to be held since the republic referendum of 1974, and the only one in modern Greek history not to concern the form of government. As a result of the referendum, the bailout conditions were rejected by a majority of over 61% to 39% approving, with the "No" vote winning in all of Greece's regions. Despite the result of the referendum, the government of Tsipras reached an agreement with the European authorities for a 3-year-bailout with even harsher austerity conditions as the ones rejected by the voters.
