Date Sold 11/14/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Scarlet Clue, the 1945 Phil Rosen Charlie Chan Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers' character") starring Sidney Toler (as Charlie Chan), Mantan Moreland, Ben Carter, Benson Fong, Virginia Brissac, Robert Homans, and Emmett Vogan. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good. There are a few faint scuffs in the image area and there is brown paper tape on the back of the top border (not put there for a restoration purpose), but the card is otherwise in nice condition!
