An Original Vintage Linenbacked French Special Poster (measures 31 1/2" x 47" [80 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Marlene Dietrich was a very popular German actress and singer from the 1920s through the 1950s! She started in German movies in the 1920s, and then got her big break in Josef von Sternberg's "The Blue Angel", which was made in both a German and an English version. That led to a series of wonderful movies with von Sternberg. Some of her other movies include: Destry Rides Again, Shanghai Express, The Scarlet Empress, A Foreign Affair, Morocco (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Blonde Venus, Touch of Evil, Witness for the Prosecution, and Judgment at Nuremberg. She passed away in 1992 at the age of 90. Artist: Rene Bouche Important Added Info: Note that this poster has the same image as the posters that were used to advertise Miss Dietrich's 1967-68 Broadway show. We don't know if this poster was created prior to that show, or if it was done afterwards, but given that it is a French poster by a French artist, we would think it is more likely that the show took the image from this poster rather than the other way around, but that is solely a guess. It is certainly also possible that Miss Dietrich performed her show in France, either before or after the Broadway show, but we could not find that she had. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had surface paper loss in the right of the top blank border, where some kind of tape was removed. It had slight darkening in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
