An Original Vintage 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Still (Learn More)

the 1933 local theater advertising Wild Boys of the Road, the classic 1933 William A. Wellman Depression era juvenile crime melodrama (about a giant problem of The Great Depression, where teen children of poor people would leave home to try to make it on their own, and they would end up roaming the countryside in gangs, often forced to steal to stay alive, and of course, also having to fend off predators of all sorts) starring Frankie Darro, Edwin Phillips, Rochelle Hudson, Sterling Holloway, Ward Bond, Alan Hale Jr., and Guy Kibbee. Note that this is a really wonderful pre-Code movie which showed the harsh realities of the effects of The Great Depression on children, made at the height of the Depression. Director Wellman had personal knowledge of the subject, because his mother was a probation officer in Massachusetts, and it is an extremely "hard hitting" movie that does not sugar coat its sensitive subject (which includes a lead female character, who disguises herself as a boy, and she has to fend off a would-be rapist) AND Too Much Harmony, the 1933 A. Edward Sutherland romantic musical comedy ("A cheerful little ear-ful... and a great big eye-ful!") starring Bing Crosby, Jack Oakie, Richard 'Skeets' Gallagher, Judith Allen, Lilyan Tashman, Ned Sparks, and Harry Green

Important Added Info: Note that in recent auctions we have auctioned small photos of theater fronts from the 1930s and 1940s. Now we have been consigned a really cool collection of mostly 1930s 8x10 stills that show theater fronts and lobby displays (many of them have a stamp from a Boston company on the back, so it seems likely that most or all of them are from theaters in the Boston area)! All of those stills are in this set of auctions (in separate auctions). So this is a rare opportunity to purchase vintage 8x10 stills showing theater fronts from the 1930s (and since we have only auctioned a tiny number of these over all our years of auctioning, there is a good chance that it will be a long time before we have more of them). Also note that this still measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm].

Condition: very good.
