An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

The Monkey Farm, the 1923 Lewis Seiler silent chimpanzee comedy short ("A William Fox Imperial Comedy"; "Don't monkey with a porcupine"; "Warm meals at all hours"; "Tough sledding for Romeo") starring Sidney Smith. Starting in 1923, Lewis Seiler directed a series of around a dozen movies like this one for William Fox, each using chimps acting in "human" roles, but we don't know more about this movie, or any of the others. We know that after this, Seiler stayed with William Fox and worked on some of the Tom Mix movies, and then switched to Warner Bros., and was involved in some of their gangster movies, like Crime School. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a significant area of paper loss that was 1" to the right of the vertical foldline between the top and middle crossfolds. Some of the paper was still there, but most of that 1" x 8" area was lost. There were some small tears and small areas of paper loss on parts of the rest of the foldlines, with some tears and areas of paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really nicely backed by a talented professional and displays really well. From any reasonable viewing distance, it looks great, and the restoration is only noticeable from very close up.
