A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 46 1/4" x 61 1/2" [117 x 156 cm]) (Learn More) Le Thermogene, the French poster (with a tagline that translates to "Generates heat and fights coughing, rheumatism, side stitches") promoting the purchase of Le Thermogene (which was 40% capsicum from cayenne peppers), and featuring art of a green devil dancing and breathing fire while clutching a wad of medicine soaked cotton to his chest. Note that a slightly different version of this poster was originally printed in 1907 with the same Leonetto Cappiello art, but with slightly different coloring and slightly different words. It proved to be unbelievably popular, because of the wonderful art, and they made new versions of it regularly. Artist: Leonetto Cappiello Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had horizontal tears in the right of the poster in the background just above the devil figure, slightly extending into the edge of the flames. It had some scuffs, tiny tears, and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some foldlines, and some pinholes and smudges around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see slight signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
