Date Sold 5/14/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 47 1/4" x 53 1/2" [120 x 136 cm]) (Learn More) Spider-Man is a comic book superhero created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962 for Marvel Comics. Stan Lee thought of the name, told Jack Kirby to draw a story with that character, and then Lee didn't like it and asked Steve Ditko to do it instead. Ditko's version is drastically different from Kirby's, and it appears that most of Stan Lee's contribution to the creation was the name, and this is one of the most highly contested subjects in the comic book hobby! In the original comic series ("The Amazing Spider-Man"), Spider-Man is the alias of Peter Parker, an orphan raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in New York City. His origin story has him acquiring spider-related abilities after a bite from a radioactive spider. Marvel has also published books featuring alternate versions of Spider-Man, including Miles Morales, who takes up the mantle of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's supposed death. The Spider-Man character has appeared in various television shows, books and multiple successful movies. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very interesting poster! It is completely transparent except for the titles and artwork of Spider-Man and the front of the poster is adhesive (designed to be used on a window front). It comes with a large sheet of paper covering the front to protect the adhesive used. However, please note that this poster was photographed by us on a black background but it is NOT a black poster. Note that this poster must be sent in a tube that is over 32" long (which is why it is in this set of auctions). You can tell how long the tube will need to be by adding 2 inches to the shorter dimension of the length or width (so 40x60s need to be sent in a 42 inch long tube, etc). Most of these posters (with the notable exception of paper banners) CAN be combined in the same tube together, with a few exceptions. Bear in mind that a very long tube (42 inches or longer) will cost a lot more to send than a 30" tube, so bear that in mind before bidding on this poster. Condition: good to very good. The adhesive is still somewhat tacky (but it may or may not be able to cling to a window without some assistance - note that there are some tape stains around the edges of the poster.) It is otherwise in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
