An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Movie Poster (measures 27 1/2" x 78 1/2" [70 x 199 cm]) (Learn More) Sealed Verdict, the 1948 Lewis Allen World War II (WWII) France underground resistance war criminal trial melodrama ("What is the truth about fraternization?"; "Everybody saw you with the French girl! She ought to hang!"; "The most powerful and provocative picture since the war!"; set in 1946, right after World War II ended; Ray Milland is an American major trying Nazi war criminals; his people try and convict a German general for ordering the massacre of a French village, and the chief witnesses are the members of the French ungrderground; but then a pretty woman comes to him and tells him the general was innocent, and the major re-opens the investigation, but keeps finding conflicting evidence, and there is pressure on him to carry out the execution, and when he can't find anything concrete, he allows the execution to go forward, and the movie ends with the general hung) starring Ray Milland, Florence Marly, Broderick Crawford, John Hoyt, John Ridgely, and Ludwig Donath. Note that this had the potential to be a great movie, with an ambiguous plot that never reveals whether or not the general was guilty, so the audience might have ambivalent feelings about his execution, but at the end of the movie, the general shows himself to be a virulent Nazi, which certainly cuts off any ambiguity! Also note that Paramount apparently worried about what kind of reception this very downbeat movie would receive at the box office, and all of the U.S. movie paper focuses on pretty Florence Marly, and makes it look like the movie might be a romantic comedy! Important Added Info: Note that Italian posters from the first few years after World War II are among the most rare posters there are, and they were almost all not the standard Italian sizes that became standard in the late 1940s (the 39x55 one-panel, the 55x78 two-panel, etc). These are likely so rare because there were still major paper shortages in Italy right after World War II, and few posters were printed, and most were recycled. This is an extremely rare first release Italian poster from 1946. Also note that this Italian poster was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: fair to good. The poster is very fragile and has separation, tears, and some tiny paper loss on parts of many folds and in one area in the bottom border. The poster is in urgent need of expert professional restoration. But the poster is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will look fantastic, and it will likely require little paint restoration within the image. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored! Learn More about condition grades
