An Original Vintage Photographic Transparency (measures 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More)

John Payne was an actor from the 1930s to the 1970s. He became an actor in 1936, but had only small success until he was signed by 20th Century-Fox in 1940, and he quickly became one of their top stars, and his most successful movie was the last one he made at Fox, "Miracle on 34th Street". He moved to RKO and reinvented himself as a tough film noir star, and he had a successful career over the next few decades (despite a car accident in 1961 which almost ended his life and sidelined him for two years while recovering). He was married to Anne Shirley from 1937 to 1943 (but she left him in January of 1942), Gloria DeHaven from 1944 to 1951, and Alexandra Crowell Curtis from 1951 to his death in 1989. Some of his other movies include: Kansas City Confidential, Tin Pan Alley, and Sun Valley Serenade. He passed away in 1989 at the age of 77.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a CAMERA ORIGINAL transparency, the actual film that was in the camera when the photographer shot this image. There is a small piece of paper taped to the sleeve that holds the transparency that says "COLOR BY BUD FRAKER". Our consignor knows this is from 1955, but does not know if it is connected to a movie. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. The coloring of the transparency has shifted over the years, and our consignor prepared a "color corrected" version through PhotoShop. We have an image of the transparency as it appears alongside the color corrected version, but of course, the auction is for a single transparency.

Note that this is one of 61 auctions of transparencies and negatives that come directly from the personal files of publicist Rolf Larsen, who worked in the Paramount Pictures publicity department from the early 1950s through the early 1970s. Larsen worked closely with many of the biggest stars on the studio roster and his massive collection of original photographers transparencies and negatives spans over more than two decades of Hollywood history. This is the first offering of these rare (and often unseen for decades!) images from eMoviePoster.com from this remarkable collection. Some of the great celebrities presented in these auctions include Sophia Loren, Eva Marie Saint, Stella Stevens, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Dean Martin, Doris Day, Henry Fonda, Deborah Kerr, Janet Leigh, Lizbeth Scott, Barbra Streisand, Angie Dickinson, Anne Baxter, Ava Gardner, Betty Hutton, and many more. All of the 61 auctions that are from Rolf Larsen's personal files have this paragraph on them.

Also every one of these 365 auctions have had their transparencies and/or negatives scanned expertly. This auction contains that scan with the "eMoviePoster.com" watermark over it. ONLY the winner of this auction will, on request, be sent UNWATERMARKED scan(s) of the items in this auction, which will both save them the time and expense of scanning them themselves, and also allow them to make high quality positive prints of the items they purchased.

Condition: good to very good. The color of the transparency has shifted from how it originally was, but otherwise, it is in nice condition. We have supplied a second image that is "color corrected" to look as it originally was (see above).
