An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Out of the Past (released in other English-speaking countries as "Build My Gallows High"), the classic 1947 Jacques Tourneur romantic love triangle revenge crime film noir thriller ("A Man - Trying to run away from his past... A Woman - Trying to escape her future!" "'Don't try to get rid of me for another woman... ...it won't work!"'; based on the novel 'Build My Gallows High' by Daniel Mainwaring; a great story of a private investigator who is hired by a gangster to find his missing mistress, and he does so, but then he falls for her, and starts a romance with her, even though he knows he is likely signing his death warrant) starring Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer, Kirk Douglas (in his third movie role!), Rhonda Fleming, Richard Webb, Steve Brodie, Dickie Moore, Virginia Huston, Paul Valentine, and Ken Niles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster, from one of the absolute best film noir movies, is incredibly rare! We have only auctioned each style of half-sheet once in all our years of auctioning! We previously auctioned the style B half-sheet for $4,477, and we previously auctioned a different example of this style A half-sheet for $4,377. Now, we have been consigned a second example of the great style A half-sheet! Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster was folded once in each direction. It has tiny paper loss at the crossfold and creases along both folds, with just a few tiny bits of surface paper loss in the left and right of the horizontal fold. It had many creases down the left and right sides of the poster, with a 3" tear in the upper left border and one in the lower right border, and both have brown paper tape on the back. There are creases in the bottom credits box and in the bottom of Mitchum's credit. There are pinholes in the corners. There is also a piece of brown paper tape on the back of the top left corner, but that was not put there for a restoration purpose. There are many tiny creases and very tiny tears around the edges, and some bits of surface paper loss scattered down the right blank border. Obviously, this poster has real condition defects, but they are the sort that respond really well to expert restoration! After proper paperbacking (or gel backing) of this poster, it will look fantastic, and it will likely require little paint restoration anywhere in the image! Learn More about condition grades
