An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Mystery of the Wax Museum, the 1933 Michael Curtiz New York City horror murder thriller ("Wax or flesh? --- you'll never solve 'The Mystery of the Wax Museum'"; "Better than Dr. X"; Lionel Atwill plays "Mr. Igor", owner of a wax museum which is burned down by his partner for the insurance money; Mr. Igor's hands are burned trying to rescue his wax figures, which are all destroyed, and years later, because he can't sculpt wax figures anymore, thanks to his burned hands, he begins killing beautiful women and dipping them in wax, for his new wax museum!) starring Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray, Glenda Farrell, Frank McHugh, Allen Vincent, Edwin Maxwell, Gavin Gordon, Monica Bannister, and Arthur Edmund Carewe. Note that this movie was remade in 1953 with Vincent Price and Charles Bronson, and it was re-titled "House of Wax".

Important Added Info: Note that while Universal horror lobby cards from their top 1930s movies are extremely expensive, the lobby cards from the three Warner Bros. early 1930s horror movies, The Mystery of the Wax Museum, Dr. X, and The Walking Dead, are FAR more rare than the Universal lobby cards, and yet they often sell for far less! We are extremely fortunate to be offering four different scene cards from The Mystery of the Wax museum (in four separate auctions). In all our previous years of auctioning, we have only auctioned one lobby card from this movie.

Condition: very good. The card has paper loss in the top left corner that extends into the blue border, but does not affect the lettering. It has a faint circular stain in the top right blank corner and two tiny pinholes in the top blank border, and three in the bottom blank border. There is a faint partial diagonal crease in the bottom left corner and a tiny tear in the right of the bottom border. There are remnants of three small pieces of paper tape on the back of parts of the borders. Other than the above defects, the card is in really nice condition. It can be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or certainly, a restorer could expertly replace the top left corner and repair the other pretty minor defects.
