An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Deluxe 7" x 9 1/4" [18 x 23 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Madge Evans was an actress from the 1910s to the 1950s. She was born in 1909, and she became an actress in commercials at the age of 2, as "Baby Madge". In 1914, she was picked to play a small girl in several William Fox movies, and she appeared in over 20 in her first two years, and she was still just 6 years old! In 1917, when she was 8, she made her Broadway debut with John and Lionel Barrymore. In 1931, she was signed to a Hollywood contract by MGM. She is probably best remembered for playing Lionel Barrymore's daughter in "Dinner at Eight" in 1933. She starred opposite of James Cagney in "The Mayor of Hell", Spencer Tracy in "The Show-Off", and Bing Crosby in "Pennies from Heaven". She left MGM in 1937, and in 1939, she married famous playwright Sidney Kingsley, and she pretty much retired, although she appeared on stage in one of her husband's plays, "The Patriot", in 1943. She passed away in 1981 at the age of 71.
Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Madge Evans! Note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7" x 9 1/4" [18 x 23 cm].

About the Collection this Item Comes From
Note that this item (and 74 others we are auctioning this week, each in its own auction) was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer in the 1970s and 1980s. During that time, he was approached by an elderly man named Sterling H. Bond, who had collected autographs for many years (starting in the early 1930s), and who sold the dealer his entire collection. Bond had tracked down many important Hollywood celebrities and obtained autographed items (often personalized to him), and he also had autographs from celebrities who were not in the film business (including famous politicians!). The dealer was so impressed with this collection that rather than sell it item by item, he began collecting autographs himself, sending celebrities items by Registered Mail which they then autographed and returned to him! He also purchased a few autographed items from top autograph dealers of the 1970s and 1980s. Now, decades later, the dealer has consigned these autographed items to us. So all of these 75 autographed items we are auctioning were either obtained by long time collector Sterling H. Bond, or were obtained by this memorabilia dealer, and we feel certain that the autograph on this item is authentic! Note that each of the 75 items from this consignor all have this paragraph on them.

Condition: good. The still was trimmed to fit a frame. There are creases in the left of the bottom border and tiny surface paper loss in the top corners.
