An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 19 1/2" x 25 3/4" [50 x 65 cm]) (Learn More) Exodus, the classic 1961 Otto Preminger Israeli Independence epic ("Based on the novel by Leon Uris"; "Screenplay by Dalton Trumbo"; about the drive immediately after World War II by Jews worldwide to create an independent state of Israel that would accept any Jews wishing to go there, especially WWII refugees, and how they achieved that despite strong opposition from the British) starring Paul Newman (as Ari Ben Canaan), Eva Marie Saint (as Kitty Fremont), Ralph Richardson (as General Sutherland), Peter Lawford (as Major Caldwell), Lee J. Cobb (as Barak Ben Canaan), Sal Mineo (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Dov Landau), John Derek (as Taha), Hugh Griffith (as Mandria), Gregory Ratoff (as Lakavitch), Felix Aylmer (as Dr. Lieberman), David Opatoshu (as Akiva Ben Canaan), Jill Haworth (in her film debut!; as Karen Johansson), Marius Goring, Alexandra Stewart (as Jordana Ben Canaan), Michael Wager, Martin Benson, Paul Stevens, Betty Walker, Martin Miller, Victor Maddern, George Maharis, John Crawford, and Samuel Segal NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that this poster reuses the Saul Bass art from the first release U.S. one-sheet, but because it was not the first time the art was used, the poster designer added "d'apres", meaning that this was not the first time this artwork was used (this is always true when it is a French artist's work, but since in this case the art was originally by Saul Bass, an American artist, it is possible that it is the work of a French artist copying Saul Bass, but since it looks exactly the same, we would think it is Bass art). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was folded across the middle and had some tiny bits of surface paper loss scattered on that fold. It had a stain in the far right of the top border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster). At some point after it was backed, the top right corner of the poster was creased, extending into the edge of the poster and the linen, but it is not very noticeable and would not show if the poster is framed.
