An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Time Out For Lessons, the 1939 Edward Cahn Our Gang juvenile college football sports fantasy comedy short (about Alfalfa not studying, and his father comes and tells him that if he doesn't study, it will hurt him in life, and it shows a long fantasy sequence with an Alfalfa in college not getting to star in the big football game, because his grades were not good!) starring Robert Blake, Darla Hood, George 'Spanky' McFarland, Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer, and Billie 'Buckwheat' Thomas. Note that MGM took a different tone with this short and spent far more money on it than many other Our Gang shorts (including a long fantasy sequence set in the future), and they greatly toned down the comedy and made it a "morality play" for kids, literally lecturing them to make sure they take "time out for lessons". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has a great stone litho showing Spanky, Buckwheat, Alfalfa and Bobby Blake wearing raccoon coats on the sidelines of a college football game (it is a fantasy sequence). Also note that almost all Our Gang first release one-sheets are extremely rare. But the ones from the sound movies of the 1930s are far more rare than those from the silent movies of the 1920s (although the silent ones are themselves quite rare!). The likely reason for this is that in the 1920s, many movies were short subjects (only one or two reels), so most theaters probably exhibited posters from several of the ones they were showing, including probably the Our Gangs, which were quite popular. But in the middle 1930s, just about all movies were feature length, and movies showed either one or two features, and they likely didn't display posters for the shorts they were showing, which would likely explain the unbelievable rarity of 1930s Our Gang one-sheets! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the top crossfold and tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds. It had tears and small paper loss in the top quarter of the vertical fold and a lesser amount of wear on the other folds. It had pinholes in the corners and a 2" tear just below the "O" of "OUR" in the title. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
