An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Two-Sided Japanese Press Sheet Movie Poster (14x20; measures 10 1/4" x 28 3/4" [26 x 73 cm]) (Learn More) Marilyn, the 1963 Harold Medford biographical documentary ("See that chorus girl... She's the one they'll call M.M."; "Whether they said 'M.M.'... Or merely 'Monroe'... You always knew they were talking about the one and only Marilyn."; "See the sensational never-before-shown scenes from her last unfinished motion picture!") narrated by Rock Hudson ("Narrated on the screen... In person... By Rock Hudson"), and featuring Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, Cyd Charisse, Dean Martin, Charles Coburn, and Tom Ewell NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the poster was originally double-sided, but not in the regular U.S. way! It had lots of black & white images on the reverse, along with much text information (in Japanese). The person who owned the poster chose to linenback it, so of course, you can no longer see what was on the reverse.
Note that there are two different versions of this Japanese press sheet. They measure the same, and at first glance they look the same, but one has a tiny Fox logo on the front, and the other has a larger one. Also, one includes a nude image of Marilyn on the back (her famous calendar pose), and the other does not. We feel certain both are original, and we don't know if one predates the other. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster originally measured 28 3/4" tall, but someone trimmed 1 1/2" from the top and bottom of the poster (obviously so that they would just have Marilyn's figure and not the excess borders). There is slight bleed-through from the printing on the back throughout the poster, and it is somewhat noticeable in Marilyn's image, but it is not very distracting. Otherwise, it had very minor wear. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The person who had the poster backed had the blank top and bottom areas recreated, and they did a nice job and the poster will display well, but bear in mind the slight bleed-through described above before bidding on this poster.
