Date Sold 8/27/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Color 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Publicity Still (Learn More) Sally K. Ride was an astronaut and physicist from the 1970s to the 1990s. She was the first American woman in space in 1983, and the third overall. Ride flew on the Challenger twice. She passed away in 2012 at the age of 61 from pancreatic cancer. General Donald Kutyna revealed that she had discreetly provided him with key information about O-rings (namely, that they become stiff at low temperatures) that eventually led to identification of the cause of the Challenger explosion. It was revealed after her passing that Ride has been in a relationship with a woman for 27 years, making her the first known LGBT astronaut! Important Added Info: Note that this publicity still (which has NASA information printed on the back and a sticker in the blank back area that reads "SALLY RIDE - FIRST LADY ASTRONAUT - 1991 E.A. WIGGINS") has been personally autographed (signed) by Sally Ride! Also note that many celebrities kept multiple 8" x 10" (or smaller) copies of good publicity images of themselves to sign for fans, and also many memorabilia shops sold such copy stills themselves. While they are not original theater-used stills, they are usually excellent clear copies, with a great shot of that celebrity in their heyday, which, when signed by the celebrity, makes for a wonderful framed picture on any fan's wall! Also note that the item comes with a "certificate of authenticity" from R&R Enterprises. Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 36 items that were assembled by a collector decades ago, mostly from RR Auctions, which has auctioned signed items since 1976. The person who purchased these items passed away several years ago, and while he did not save most of the certificates of authenticity he received when he bought these signed items, almost all were purchased between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, and we think it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is genuine. In our last auction, we auctioned around 90 items from this same consignor. Now we are auctioning the last of this wonderful collection, and after this, there will be no more left to auction! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
