Russ Tamblyn was born in Los Angeles in 1934, and by age ten he was appearing in plays and on radio. He got a part as an extra in The Boy with Green Hair in 1948 and the following year was given the lead role in The Kid from Cleveland, where he was billed as "Rusty Tamblyn". He was signed by MGM, and they cast him in any movie that had a part for a teenage male. He had been a gymnast at North Hollywood High School, and in 1954 MGM cast him as the youngest brother Gideon Pontipee in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and he got to do some acrobatic dancing. Had he been a few years older, he likely would have gone on to star in MGM musicals, but this was the time when big musicals were on the downward slope, and he returned to mostly dramatic roles, including playing Norman Page in Peyton Place (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and the title character in George Pal's tom thumb (intentionally in lower-case!). His best role ever came in 1961 when he got to play Riff in West Side Story. Even though he was 26, he was pretty believable as a teenager, although he was somewhat less believable as a dancing gang leader! Tamblyn's career peaked with West Side Story, although he has continued appearing in movies and TV over the years including Django Unchained in 2012. He is the father of Amber Tamblyn, who starred in TV's "Joan of Arcadia" from 2003 to 2005. As of 2021, he is still alive at the age of 86!

Important Added Info: The coloring of the transparency has changed over the years, and our consignor prepared a "color corrected" version (through PhotoShop), and we have an image of the transparency as it appears alongside the color corrected version, but of course, the auction is for a single transparency.

Note that this is a "studio-issued" transparency. What is it? It was produced by the studio but is not the camera original. It is very high quality and was created in quantity by the studios and sent to media outlets or other places that had need of thent out or used for approved publication purposes. The transparency is in a plastic sleeve (but we removed it and scanned it, so that bidders could see just how high quality it is). It will be sent to the winner of the auction in the plastic sleeve.

This is a very special auction of 710 extremely rare negatives and transparencies of various sizes, plus lots of sets of 35mm slides. EVERY single one in this auction is either "studio issued" (meaning it was created by the studio and sent to theaters and movie outlets), OR it is a "camera original" (meaning it was the actual negative that was in the camera when the photographer took the picture). Every auction clearly identifies which they are, and there are no items being auctioned that are not either "studio issue" or "camera originals". We have divided them by type and size.

Also note that this auction is for one or more transparencies, and every one of the 270 auctions of transparencies we are currently running have been scanned expertly. This auction contains the scan(s) of the transparencies in this auction, and, except in the case of very few larger sets of transparencies, we scanned each one individually (see above for what we did on this specific auction), and we have added an "eMoviePoster.com" watermark over it. The winner of this auction and ONLY the winner of this auction will, upon request, be sent the UNWATERMARKED scan(s) of the transparencies in this auction, which will both save them the time and expense of scanning them themselves, and also allow them to make positive prints of the items they purchased, if they desire. However, if it indicates above that we did not scan all the transparencies in this auction (which is only true of a very few transparencies), then of course we can only send you the photos we took of the ones we did not scan.
