Date Sold 4/9/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) It Happened In Harlem, the 1945 Bud Pollard black African American musical (about the beginnings of Boogie Woogie and jive in Harlem in New York City, and the movie shows this through a fictionalized biography of a performer's rise to fame) starring Christopher Columbus and His Swing Crew (Columbus was a drummer in the 1920s, who started his own band in the 1930s, and performed at clubs until he was in his 90s, and he passed away at 100 in 2002!), Slick & Slack (a black musical tap dance team that played the spoons and performed in this movie, and also in "The Joint is Jumpin'" from the same year; we were unable to find out anything more about them, including their real names), Phil Gomez (a clarinet player who had a "Mexican-flavored Dixieland jazz style"), 'Pitter-Patter' Pitts (Juanita Pitts; a black female tap dancer who originally danced with her husband as Pitts and Pitts, and after he became ill, she became a solo act, where she dressed like a male tap dancer; she only appeared in this one movie, but she appeared in clubs for decades, and while she is not well known, she is considered one of the greatest female tap dancers), Dotty Rhodes (billed as "Dotty Fan-Tastic Dancer, she'll send you!"; a fan dancer from Harlem's Cotton Club, and she only appeared in this one movie, and we could find no further information about her), and an "All Colored Cast". Note that not only is this movie important historically, it also includes a number of top black performers of the time who either only appeared in this movie, or in a very small number of movies, and made their careers performing in clubs. Condition: good. Each has paper loss around the edges and the still pictured at bottom has stains scattered in various areas.
