An Original Vintage Special Spook Show Poster (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

Dr. Evil and His Terrors of the Unknown, the 1950s horror spook show ("3 super shock shows on stage"; "Also in person, the Mummy - King Kong [Hollywood Gorilla character portrayals]"; "We can't advertise what happened when the Mummy grabs a slave girl and lights go out, but wow! Something you never dreamed you'd see"; "If you are brave enough, you win a dead body free. We bet you can't take it!"; "3 super shock shows! On stage!"; "King Kong. Real. On stage."; "On stage. The Mummy - in person"; "On stage. Live snakes roam theatre"; "On stage in person! Direct from the nut house that crazy mixed up Dr. Evil and his... Terrors of the Unknown"; "Monsters grab girls out of the audience!"; "You may find a live snake under your seat"; "Girls! do not come alone!"; "Surgical maniac amputates limbs of lovely ladies!") starring Philip Morris (as "Dr. Evil"). Note that spook shows started in the 1930s and continued into the late 1960s, with their greatest prominence in the late 1940s and 1950s. Local theaters would book three to five low budget movies, and then advertise them as a late night "spook show". Often they would have "live" acts on stage (sometimes famous actors who had appeared in monster movies would appear on stage in full make up, and sometimes it would be local actors dressed as monsters), and often the posters would make outrageous promises (sometimes they might say a person would be beheaded on stage, etc!). Not too many of these spook show posters survive!
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info:

UPDATED 11/03/2011: Note that a knowledgeable spook-show collector tells us that they believe this card was part of a set of 4 that went with the circa 1950s spook show "Terrors of the Unknown". We cannot be certain of this but it is plausible. Please only bid if you can accept the uncertainty of the origins of this card.

Condition: good. There are tape stains at upper and lower right and there are some pieces of tape and stains on the front and back around the edges of the poster.
