Date Sold 6/30/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Folded World War II Poster (measures 28 1/2" x 40" [72 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Careless Talk Got There First, the 1944 U.S. World War II (WWII) Home Front poster encouraging citizens to be aware of security risks, and featuring Herbert Morton Stoops art of a dead American paratrooper landing with more paratroopers in the background. Note that this was one of several "hard-hitting" posters with the same theme and same tagline, but with different images of soldiers killed by "loose lips". We have seen two different posters with this exact same title from 1944. This one has great art by Herbert Morton Stoops (and the other has art by Ray Prohaska). Artist: Herbert Morton Stoops Important Added Info: This poster is quite interesting in that it fully folds to a size of 7" x 10", and it has return address information printed on the back from the "Office of War Information", so that the poster could be mailed folded up all over the country! When you partially open the poster, you see a 10" x 14" area of the back of the poster that has a message to the recipient overprinted on it (see our image for the text). We don't know if this printing would be on all examples of this poster, or only some of them. Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good to fine. There is small separation at the bottom of the vertical folds. Otherwise, the poster is in really nice condition, especially considering its age. Learn More about condition grades
